Identification:
African Sigillata 4 Form 4 Hayes 70 small bowl.
Description:
Two joining fragments preserving rim and upper/middle wall. Two grooves on upper surface rim, one groove on exterior face rim.
Light red (2YR 5.8/6) body, with red (2YR 4.5/6) slip on all preserved surfaces, glossy on interior wall and upper surface rim flange, matte on underside rim flange, slightly glossy on exterior wall.
Micromorphology: Exterior: Striations on underside rim and small strip at top of upper wall; wall below this smooth and compact with faint small to medium facets. Interior and upper side rim: smooth and compact, with faint medium traces upper wall.
Use alteration: Exterior: Slip abraded in very narrow band on tip of tooth on flange.
